Fly Away Farm - Flocks and Fleeces Raised and Grazed on Madeline Island
Two Ply Natural Yarn Blends
These Natural Blended Yarns are all wool from our growing flock of wonderful sheep.
We started with Cheviots which are beautiful small sheep from the Cheviot Hills of Scotland.  There wool is still used for rug weaving on Fly Away Farm.
For softer and close to the skin smoothness we added in Romney Marsh sheep from England.  They are a very wooley sheep with fleece on their faces and legs.  My daughter once called the Chub Chub sheep from the way they move.  Next we brought in fine Merino natural colored wool sheep.  Many of these girls are Moorit in color.  This is a rare recessive gene that gives us a true brown tone to the fleece.  We have some spotted babies and ewes as well.  So our color scheme is growing.  Now the latest addition to the family is the Blue Faced Leicester breed.  Their lustrous longwool adds a silkiness and smoothness to the yarn making it a delight to spin and knit with.
We blend the yarns in the carding process to bring you the largest variety of colors and weights in all natural wool.
